Um, I found an English translation of a French translation from the orginal text of the Thousand and One Nights, Arabian thingie. thus far it has everything, wives shagging black slaves, donkeys, camels and the occasional philosphic query, such as 'if my wife shags the black slave THEN the camel is that like, totally worse than just the camel?' Well, not really, but I'm still surprised to find the books. I though tthey weren't real, just a brothers grimm type vocally-passed legend. How daft am I? laugh.gif

The first translation of it into English was by Richard Francis Burton (the Victorian explorer, not the actor) and concentrated on the smutty bits.

This may be that version, it only tells the French guys names as far as I can see. But whe-hey! Smut is good! tongue.gif

I know there's an Arabic scholar who's done a new translation with his other half and Robert irwin, but you won't be able to get that in one in paperback (and thus for less than an arm and a leg) until next summer.

Recently read:

Vampire Apocalypse: Decent into Choas by Derrek Gunn. Very entertaining if a little confusing due to the sheer number of characters. Can't wait for the third book in the series.

The Good Guy by Dean Koontz: Utterly readable thriller that passed away a few spare hours.

I'm nearly finished in rereading Gaiman's Neverwhere. Fabulously imaginative.

If ever there was an author I'd aspire to write like it's Gaiman.

Have you read American Gods, Steven? I really think that was the one where Gaiman struck his stride as a novelist, though he's better still as a kid's writer.

Yeah, I've read all of Gaiman's novels and short stories. American Gods is definitely worth the read as well...

It's a toss up between that and Coraline as his best for me, though I still haven't read The Graveyard Book.

I had to read The Graveyard Book for class. (Oh, and whoo-hoo! I'm finished with classes!! Got 98% in both! I can breathe, read, & write until June 1st, when the next one starts!) I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would. I like Gaiman.

Have you read any Jonathan Carroll? His stuff is very similar to Gaiman.

Has anybody read London Revenant by Conrad Williams? It's sort of a mix of M John Harrison and Michael marshal Smith. Great fun.
